This image shows a brick
range fire place in Tyrella
House.
This was created from
reclaimed bricks that had previously been bed in lime mortar. This
allowed the bricks to be cleaned and re-used.
The bricks were then
bed once more in 3/1 lime putty mortar. The lime mortar and soft
clay bricks can be powdery. This is a particular problem as it can
get into the food and will also allow cooking oils and fats to be
absorbed into the wall.
Biofa Stabilising Primer
offered the solution. It was diluted 50% with water and two applications
made.
The result is a no powdery,
breathable, matt and wipeable surface.
