| Characteristics | Clear
Glaze is a water-based medium for veil painting containing natural
resins, natural oils, balsams, ethereal oils and natural clays. The colorizers
contain mineral pigments and come in red, wine red, yellow, ochre, leaf
green, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, brown and black. The mixture dries
fast and is wipe-proof. Sealing surface with pure or slightly diluted
Clear Glaze makes it washable. |
| Ingredients | Clear Glaze:
water, shellac, larch bitumen, castor oil, linseed oil, colophony-glycerine
resin ester, wood oil, polysaccharide, Turkey red oil, aliphatic hydrocarbons,
citrus peel oil, borax, citral, lavender oil, thyme oil. Colorizers: paliogen red (3210), sico-bordo red (3220), nickel titanium yellow (3230, 3240), chrome oxide green (3250), ultramarine blue (3260), sky blue (3275), umber (3280), ferric oxides (3290). |
| Application | This
system of treatment is suitable for treating various interior surfaces,
e.g. plastered walls, wallpaper and timber panelling. Special effects
can be obtained by veil painting, in which a surface is given several
layers of different translucent colours. Both the Clear
Glaze and
the Glaze Colours are excellent artistic mediums. |
| Preliminary treatment | Suitable
as a base for the Glaze Paints are the Wall
Emulsions
and the brush-on Plaster. It can also be used on the interior Silicate
Paint (always consult relevant data sheet). The Wall
Emulsions
and the brush-on Plaster make for a more intense finish. Timber
surfaces should be primed with a coat of Clear
Glaze diluted
50-50 with water. |
| Directions for use | Mix
the Glaze with colours and as much water as you require to reach
the strength of colour desired. A rough guide would be: 2 parts Glaze,
1 part colour, 7 parts water. Put the colour into the Glaze and
mix. For the best result add water gradually, while stirring continuously.
The mixture can be applied by brush, roller or sponge. The range of colours of the Glaze Paint system can be enlarged dramatically by using the BIOFA Powder Pigments. In order for the powder to be smoother and to enable it to be fully dissolved by the glaze, mix 75 grams of pigment (one jar) into 100 ml of water and leave to stand for at least 12 hours (stirring a few times in between). Then the Clear Glaze is stirred into the pigment paste. A rough guide would be: stir 200-300 grams of Clear Glaze into 10 grams of pigment paste and gradually thin with 600-700 ml of water. This mixture will then cover 15-20 mē. If a stronger finish is required, the amount of Clear Glaze can be increased. Important: Make sure to ventilate well when working with the product and while it is drying. |
| Drying | Leave
at least 2 - 3 hours between coats. Three coats or less will be fully
dry within 24 hours. |
| Coverage |
One litre of the above mixture will cover approx. 15 mē |
| Cleaning of implements |
Clean
immediately after use with water. |
| Storage |
Seal well and keep
in a cool place. Protect against frost. Use opened containers as quickly
as possible. |
| Safety Precautions | Even
natural paints should not be flushed away and must be kept away from children.
The raw materials used can cause a smell that is typical of the product. |
| Disposal | Ask advice about
the quantities needed to prevent leftovers. Clean containers and take
to recycling centre. Leave leftover paint to dry and dispose of with household
rubbish. |
