Traditional Materials Supplied
My partner and I went on a lime day training course some time ago, before embarking on restoration of some old farm buildings. It was a real eye opener and we've never looked back. Using lime to repair pointing and to plaster internal walls has virtually eliminated damp inside the buildings. Neighbours in their tarty barn conversions grumble of condensation dripping down internal walls and of rain almost 'peeing' through stonework where cement has been used. Sodden J-cloths adorn window sills and skirting boards. We don't get that. Your one day course was the start of an adventure - helping us respect the value of traditional buildings and traditional building materials.
After
extensively using lime putty products in the house, [a Grade 11 Listed Building]
a damp survey was carried out by a reputable remedial treatments company. A damp
meter was applied to the surface of the internal plaster and the chap just could
not believe that a traditional solid wall could be so dry without tanking. The
use of lime has allowed the walls to breathe and the moisture to evaporate away
without resorting to modern materials. | ||||||

excellent day last Friday. Even having seen the DVD I would not have believed

Course that I attended on Friday. It was very educational, but more importantly
entertaining. I go on several courses throughout the year and some can be very
stuffy and over complicated with too much technical information, but this was
nicely balanced for us in the business and also the homeowners. As someone who
recommends the use of Lime mortars etc. on a day to day basis I will now be adding
your name to my list of suppliers for lime products etc., which I trust is acceptable
